Wandering
A bird-shaped pin that silently connects people with shared experiences through a gentle vibration and light.
When we’re feeling down, we often think we’re the only ones in the world experiencing these feelings.
There’s a sense of comfort in knowing that we’re not alone and that there are others just like us, with the same worries, thoughts and challenges.
I created a pin shaped like a bird that belongs to a type of group that I call “quiet groups,” groups that we don’t choose to belong to, but life decides that we’re part of them. For example, breast cancer survivors, parents of special needs children, and many more. The group I’m referring to is the wives of reservists.
Now that I’m part of a quiet group, I don’t want to wear a branded shirt for my group like a fan of a soccer team. But if I’m sitting in a cafe, riding a train, or at a certain event, I’d be happy to know if there’s someone else here like me. That’s why I created this pin. When the pin detects another pin like itself within a certain radius, it lights up monetarily and gives a soft vibration. The vibration is so I know there’s someone else like me, and the light is so I can find her.
We don’t have to talk; a glance or just a small, simple interaction like a vibration can tell us that we’re not alone.
